Editorial policy and how we make money

How we research, check and correct our guides, and how Landed in Penh is funded.

What we publish

Landed in Penh publishes practical guides in three areas: moving to Phnom Penh, settling in, and everyday life. We also publish a weekly roundup of events. Every guide should help you make a better decision, solve a problem or navigate life in Phnom Penh more confidently.

How we research

  • We start with official sources, such as government and immigration websites, and name them in the article.
  • We read what people who have done it recently report in public forums and communities. That tells us what people are asking, but we check the answer against reliable sources before we state it.
  • We use our own first hand experience and say clearly when it is our experience rather than a rule.

How we label information

  • Our experience: what happened to us. Useful, but not a rule for everyone.
  • Checked: confirmed against an official or reliable source, with the date we checked it.
  • Reported: what other people say has worked for them, which we have not confirmed ourselves.
  • Uncertain: where sources disagree or the rules are unclear, we say so rather than guess.

Dates and reviews

Each guide shows when it was published and, where we have changed it, when it was updated. Time sensitive guides, such as visas and work permits, also show when the facts were last checked, and we review them regularly. Our 90 day landing checklist is reviewed every quarter. We update guides as soon as we learn that something has changed.

Corrections

If you spot an error or something out of date, tell us through the contact page. We fix it as soon as we can and note the change in the article.

Independence and money

  • We take no referral or recruitment fees from schools, agents or relocation companies.
  • Nobody can pay to appear in a guide or to change what we say.
  • The free guides and checklist are funded by us. In future we may sell a paid relocation pack and use affiliate links. Any affiliate link is disclosed beside the link.
  • Listings in the weekly What's on roundup are free. We link each one to the organiser so you can check the details.

Local businesses and services

If we list or recommend a business, we will explain how we chose it. We do not use labels such as verified, vetted or trusted unless we have defined the criteria and carried out the checks. We never publish invented reviews, and we never imply official endorsement. Paid placements, referral fees and affiliate links will be labelled clearly and kept separate from editorial recommendations.

Images

We use real photographs wherever we can: our own, or free to use stock photos from Pexels. Pexels does not require credit, so we do not print a caption on every image. When no suitable photo exists, we may use a realistic illustrative image instead. We label it as illustrative, and we never present it as a real place, person or event. We do not claim a photo shows a particular place unless we know it does.

What our guides are not

Our guides are general information. They are not legal, immigration, tax, medical or financial advice. Always confirm requirements with the relevant official source or a licensed professional.
